Elin och Kalle

My grandparents Kalle and Elin moved to the farm in 1946. They traveled with a horse and wagon from Rimbo in Roslagen and made a stop in Uppsala. There, they stayed overnight at the sewage plant. They arrived with a sleigh, but when the snow melted overnight, they had to reload everything onto a cart instead.

My dad, Rune, was 16 years old at the time. He was deeply impressed by my grandfather, who walked beside the horse and wagon the entire way to Gårdsjö – a distance of 50 km. Rune thought my grandfather was very old, but Kalle was only 45 years old.

At that time, the farm was run with 8-10 cows and 20 hectares of grain. During the winter, Kalle and Rune worked in the forest when they weren’t out hunting.

In 1975, my parents, Rune and Gull, took over the farm. By then, milk production had been discontinued, and my dad focused instead on sows in the old barn and began selling piglets. It was during this time that I, inspired by Emil in Lönneberga, tamed a pig. I taught it to jump over hurdles and sit nicely.

In 1989, I took over the farm. By then, my dad was tired of farming and bought a forest machine, which he operated for ten years before he completely retired and became the world’s best “moose farmhand” at home on the farm.

In 2006, we started the moose enclosure, and the following year, in 2007, we opened Gårdsjö Moose Park.
